I spent the night finishing up the last details for the centrepiece. I was visiting a school this morning and wanted to show the students a completed piece. As an artist, I never see a piece as done because there are always other details that could be added. I considered beading the entire middle but if I spend any more time, I am just prolonging the official launch of the mural.
If you look closely at the picture, you’ll notice a fresh piece of beading foundation under my current project. It’s hard to even remember a time when the felt was so stiff it almost made beading more challenging. At that time, I remember how often I would undo my stitches so that every line was exact. As time progressed, I faced many challenges but somehow always managed to find alternate ways of doing things. I learned not to strive for perfection, just to go with the flow.
I have always admired the work of master beaders but I now have a deeper appreciation for their entire process in creation. I look forward to seeing where this journey will take us next as we move on to actually beading over 10,000 orange flowers.
